The plowing - it is developing is a documentary film made by the DEFA studio for documentaries by Winfried Junge in 1987 . The title of the documentary refers to the winged word known in the GDR, “The flying, it is developing” from the story The Cow in the Propeller .
action
A national team meets for training in a freshly harvested field near Leipzig . The team consists of eight active players and supervisors, there is also a head coach. Members have in circle -, district - and East Germany won championships and thus for the national team in plowing qualified, which is now preparing for an international championship.
One participant comes from Schmölln and was released from the National People's Army especially for this championship . He pulls a four- furrow plow in Category 2 with his tractor from the Schönebeck tractor factory . It all starts with the cleft furrow , you have to start in the right place and keep the furrow straight and in the same line. A training instructor from the state-owned Gut Schwerin-Warnitz participates in category 1 with a three-point plow. Trainer Osterwald is undergoing an endurance test at temperatures around 31 ° C, as he completes his inspection rounds on foot. The plow must leave a smooth furrow wall, the ground must be turned again. The heaviest device is the eight-share plow, which is pulled by a tractor driver from Neubrandenburg in category 3.
In the autumn of 1986 7 participants and 34 participants from 6 socialist countries meet in the Hungarian People's Republic for a Comecon championship in performance plowing. An important task is the preparation of the plow, which requires a lot of conscientiousness. A Hungarian participant reports that such a competition is not only fun, but also provides new experiences for daily work. In the meantime, the national technology brought along is being put in top form. In the evening there is another meeting at which the agenda for the competition day and the dress code are set and then announced immediately.
On the day of the competition there is first a cold buffet , in which all participants take part in dressing up clothes . Then the allocation of the parcels to the 41 participants is decided by drawing lots and everyone receives a number on their back. Before the start of the competition, as it should be, the participants will make a pledge. With the Hungarian national anthem played by a brass band and the hoisting of the flags, the fight can begin on October 2nd, 1986 without the starting gun being fired. The competition lasts exactly 90 minutes and speed also earns points here. Only the time spent plowing is counted as time, without preparation or measurements. More and more spectators arrive, some even with buses. The evaluation and awards take place that evening, on which the referees cannot agree for a long time. The ČSSR took first place in the team standings , while the GDR took second place for the first time. Then the medals are awarded to the best individual plowers, with the first places in the second and third categories going to representatives of the GDR. The day ends with a dance evening.

The plowing - it is developing was turned on ORWO-Color by the artistic working group “document” . The premiere took place on the occasion of the 10th National Festival of Documentaries and Short Films of the GDR for cinema and television at the beginning of October 1987 in Neubrandenburg . From April 15, 1988 it was shown in GDR cinemas.
