David Bruce (born October 7, 1964 in Thunder Bay , Ontario ) is a retired Canadian ice hockey player who played 237 games for the Vancouver Canucks , St. Louis Blues and San Jose Sharks in the National during his playing career between 1982 and 1999 Hockey League on the position of the left winger . However, Bruce spent most of his career in the International Hockey League and American Hockey League , where he celebrated the greatest success of his career in the service of the Peoria Rivermen by winning the Turner Cup of the IHL in 1991.
Career
Bruce played for two years from 1982 to 1984 in the Ontario Hockey League with the Kitchener Rangers with whom he in the season 1983/84 at the Memorial Cup took part.
After he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1983 in the second round at 30th position by the Vancouver Canucks, he signed his first professional contract for the 1984/85 season and was initially used by the Canucks in the American Hockey League with the Fredericton Express . The left winger stayed in Vancouver up to and including the 1989/90 season , but was never able to get stuck in the regular squad despite 143 NHL appearances. Therefore, he did not extend his expiring contract and went as a free agent in the summer of 1990 for one season on the St. Louis Blues, where he but NHL team also both inside and in the IHL - farm team played. In the IHL, he was rewarded at the end of the playoffs with the James Gatschene Memorial Trophy for the best player in the playoffs, after leading the Peoria Rivermen to win the Turner Cup . Due to the NHL Expansion Draft in 1991 , the Canadian then had to switch to the San Jose Sharks. There, as in Vancouver and St. Louis, he did not make the breakthrough and played mostly for the Kansas City Blades until 1998 . Only in the 1991/92 season he was an integral part of the Sharks NHL squad.
For the season 1998/99 Bruce moved to Europe to EV Landshut in the German Ice Hockey League . After the end of the season, he ended his career.
