David Hedison (born May 20, 1927 in Providence , Rhode Island ; actually Albert David Hedison, Jr. , † July 18, 2019 in Los Angeles , California ) was an American actor of Armenian descent.

life and career

In some publications he is listed with the maiden name "Ara Heditsian". According to some sources, the Armenian grandfather changed the family name from Heditsian to Hedison because many people mistakenly pronounced the original family name as "Hedison", according to other sources the original name was considered too strange by the Twentieth Century-Fox film studio, so that it was Al Hedison was changed. Under the name Al Hedison he received the Theater World Award as vielversprechendster newcomer to the Shakespeare -Theaterstück " Much Ado About Nothing " (Much Ado About Nothing) . He got a contract with 20th Century Fox and in 1958 came to lasting cult fame in the title role of the unfortunate scientist Andre Delambre in Kurt Neumann's science horror thriller Die Fliege , because he designed the role largely with a clawed hand and black cloth over a fly mask. He was later used in various supporting roles until he got the lead role as Captain Lee B. Crane in the television series The Seaview - On a Secret Mission from 1964 to 1968. In 2004 he worked on 50 episodes of the series Shadows of Passion .

Up until James Bond 007: Quantum of Solace (2008) he was the only actor to have played the character Felix Leiter in two James Bond films. With this production, Jeffrey Wright caught up with him. Hedison had the role first in 1973 in James Bond 007 - Live and Let Die alongside Roger Moore adopted, in 1989, he returned to License to Kill back, with Timothy Dalton starred as Bond.

From the mid-1950s up to and including 2017, he was seen in more than 90 film and television productions.

Hedison's wife died in 2016; he had been married to her since 1968. Of her two daughters, Alexandra Hedison , who is married to Jodie Foster , also became an actress. David Hedison died in Los Angeles in July 2019 at the age of 92.
