David P. Lane

Sir David Philip Lane (born July 1, 1952 in Wimbledon , Surrey , England ) is a British immunologist and cancer researcher . Lane works at the University of Dundee in Dundee , Scotland , and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research in Singapore .

Lane is particularly known for the discovery of the tumor suppressor p53 (1979). In the course of his scientific career, Lane has made significant contributions to the understanding of the function of p53 in healthy individuals and the malfunction of genetically modified p53 in cancer patients.

Life

Lane received a BA in Microbiology from University College London in 1973 and a Ph.D. from Avrion Mitchison in 1976. in immunology . As a postdoctoral fellow , Lane worked with Lionel Crawford at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in London , before he worked as a lecturer in the Department of Zoology from 1977 and from 1981 in the Department of Biochemistry at Imperial College London . From 1978 to 1980 Lane did a research stay at the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in Cold Spring Harbor , New York . In 1985 he became head of the molecular immunochemistry laboratory at the Imperial Cancer Research Fund in South Mimms , Hertfordshire ; In 1988 he became the head of the entire facility. In 1990, Lane took on a professorship in molecular oncology at the University of Dundee in Dundee , Scotland , and headed the Cancer Research UK research laboratory there . From 2007 to 2009, Lane was given leave of absence to head the Institute of Molecular and Cell Biology (A * STAR, Agency for Science, Technology and Research ) in Singapore . In 2007/2008 he headed the Experimental Therapeutics Center and in 2008/2009 the Biomedical Research Council in Singapore. From 2007 to 2010, Lane was Head of Research at Cancer Research UK and since 2009 he has been Head of Research at A * Star in Singapore.

Lane is married to Birgit Lane , a dermatologist and immunologist who also conducts research in Dundee and Singapore.
