Dean Wesley Smith

Dean Wesley Smith (born November 10, 1950 ) is an American science fiction writer .

Life and work

In 1992 Smith was a participant in the renowned Clarion workshop for aspiring science fiction and fantasy authors, where he subsequently also worked as a lecturer.

He became known primarily through his novels from the Star Trek universe. Under the pseudonyms Sandy Schofield and Kathryn Wesley, he and his wife Kristine Kathryn Rusch publish works that have been written together.

Smith is primarily active as a writer of novel versions and tie-ins to TV series and movies. He has published works on: Smallville , Spider-Man , X-Men , Aliens - The Return , Roswell , Men in Black , Quantum Leap , Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within , The Rundown , Steel Man , The Core and X- Men .

Smith not only writes licensed works for existing films, comics or series, but also publishes his own creations such as The Tenth Planet .

Within the Star Trek universe, he has written books for all five television series in existence : Spaceship Enterprise , The Next Generation , Deep Space Nine , Voyager and Enterprise . He also wrote novels for the book series Star Trek: Starfleet Kadetten and Star Trek - New Worlds , mostly published in German by Heyne Verlag .

His short stories have appeared in over 20 different anthologies such as Journeys to the Twilight Zone (1992), The Book of Kings (1995) and Past Lives, Present Tense .

Rusch and Smith directed Pulphouse Publishing for several years and published the hardcover version of Pulphouse Magazine .

In 1993, Smith founded Tomorrow Speculative Fiction magazine . He later sold it to Algis Budrys .
