David Bischoff

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

David Frederick Bischoff (born December 15, 1951 in Washington, DC ; died March 19, 2018 in Eugene , Oregon ) was an American science fiction writer.

Life

Bischoff graduated from the University of Maryland in Baltimore and graduated in 1973. He then worked for the television company NBC in Washington. His first SF short story, The Sky's to Oyster; the Stars Are Pearls , appeared in 1975 in the US pocket book series Perry Rhodan . As a result, novels appeared, including the Dragonstar series (with Thomas F. Monteleone , 1980 ff.) And numerous short stories.

He was best known for his novel versions and tie-ins for films, television series and computer games. He wrote the "book about the film" for WarGames - War Games (1983), Isn't she wonderful? (1987), Gremlins 2 (1988) and Blob - Horrors Without a Name (1989). He has also written scripts for television series, including episodes of Space Cops , Spaceship Enterprise - The Next Century and The Astro-Dinos .

John Clute describes him in the Encyclopedia of Science Fiction as a versatile and adaptable author, which at the same time expresses a criticism insofar as he misses a separate profile in the work of Bischoff. In this context, Clute speaks of “ingenious but impersonal skill”.

In 1978 he was nominated for the Nebula Award for a short version of the short story Tim Woodman (1976), which was expanded into a novel in 1979 and which he had written with Dennis R. Bailey .

Bischoff lived in Eugene, Oregon, where he died in March 2018 at the age of 66. He leaves a son.
