(2005)

Dear Frustrated Superstar is the first album by the British singer-songwriter Nerina Pallot . Over 10,000 copies of the debut album were sold in the UK.

history

Her mentor Andrew King (ex-manager of The Clash and Ian Dury ) instructed the musician Nerina Pallot to place her demos at various record companies. In fact, the musician receives a contract with the Universal subsidiary Polydor Records . King has concerns, but Pallot ignores them. Dear Frustrated Superstar finally released on August 20, 2001 . As a promotion, Pallot was allowed to appear in the music show Live and Kicking , but was ousted by Faye Tozer (ex- Steps ) in front of the camera. After a modest chart entry at number 82, the album is classified by Polydor as a commercial failure. Pallot does not agree to a marketing campaign with a kind of remix album and falls out with the responsible A & Rs . In the course of this, she was removed from the opening act for the Bryan Adams tour and finally terminated. Nerina Pallot initially withdrew into private life before she was able to start a comeback in 2005 with the self- released album Fires .

In the wake of the commercial success of the follow-up album Fires in 2006 to re-issue released as bonus tracks, the two songs that The Girl from Lakeville and 57 Flavors (The Height of Bad Behavior) contains the previously only as a B-side of the single Alien were available .

Music genre

Nerina Pallot combines different styles of music on her debut album, with the focus on folk rock in the style of Joni Mitchell . Most of the songs are only accompanied by a piano or guitar. The album also contains borrowings from electronic music , for example elements of trip-hop and various samples with the help of synthesizers and drum computers . There are also influences from pop music . Pallot's singing is high, but still powerful and warm. The musical style has often been compared with Alanis Morissette , Tori Amos , Dido , Kate Bush and Shawn Colvin . The lyrics are about Pallot's view of the world and her pursuit of success.
