Déclaration is a studio album by French chansonist Georges Moustaki . It was published in 1973 as a 12 "LP by Polydor .

background

The album title refers to the opening title Declaration , in which Moustaki proclaims the "state of absolute happiness". He is referring to the unpromising prognoses of the Club of Rome about the future of the planet and calls for optimism. The childish-looking illustration on the album cover that refers to this as well as the other colored pencil drawings on the cover are by Georges Moustaki himself.

Recordings

The Polydor producer Jacques Bedos , who was already responsible for the musical success of Serge Reggiani and Maxime Le Forestier , was hired for the studio recordings . The titles were arranged by the French swing clarinetist Hubert Rostaing . The recordings were also enriched by the participation of renowned instrumentalists such as the jazz cellist Jean-Charles Capon .

Also striking are the South American influences that run through the album , which are expressed through the collaboration with Brazilian guest musicians, especially on the titles Le quotidien and Les eaux de Mars . Moustaki, who toured Brazil before the start of the recording , first came into contact with the bossa nova and the musical-political movement Tropicalismo . Fascinated by both, he wrote Les eaux de Mars, a French version of Antônio Carlos Jobim's Aguas de Março. From then on, he maintained contact for many years with Brazilian musicians such as Elis Regina , Chico Buarque , Gilberto Gil and Paula Morelenbaum .

reception

The release of Déclaration was followed by a world tour, including stops in Japan , Canada and the United States , where Moustaki performed with a band in New York's Carnegie Hall . Nadjejda , first recorded for the album , became one of Moustaki's most popular songs and is still one of the most famous French chansons.
