The Libertador General San Martín Department is located in the northeast of the Chaco Province in northwest Argentina and is one of the province's 25 administrative units .
It borders the province of Formosa to the northeast, the Bermejo department to the east, the Primero de Mayo , General Donovan , Sargento Cabral , Veinticinco de Mayo and Quitilipi departments to the south, and the Maipú and General Güemes departments to the west .
