Jakob Kisch is a crook who specializes in professional art theft. He suffers a heart attack during a break-in at Villa Wertheim and is discovered. However, he can pretend to be an employee of a security company and is brought to a hospital by the rescue team - without knowing his real identity. From there he manages to escape.
His long-time accomplice Fanni Birek persuades him to seek treatment in a private rehabilitation clinic, where he pretends to be a millionaire from South Africa of Austrian origin. In the clinic, Jakob can eavesdrop on the conversations between the police chief Fellinger and the seedy businessman Markus Welk, where he learns about the corrupt machinations of the two. Jakob decides to capitalize on his knowledge.
Jakob cleverly succeeds in stealing the police chief's friendship, supported by his accomplice Fanni. Together they give parties and are on good terms with the greats from business and politics.
After all, Fellinger's trust in Jakob is so great that he entrusts him with almost all of his corruptly earned cash wealth in order to whitewash it and increase it.
The internal audit department of the police has already tracked the president and Jakob has him exposed using a tape recording. Jakob and Fanni escape with the police chief's cash without being discovered.
