The area near Detk was already settled during the Magyar conquest . Detk was first mentioned in a document in 1261. In the 14th century Detk was a parish and was conveniently located on an important trade route. Detk was depopulated several times during the Turkish occupation in the 16th century . Today's Detk was built in the second half of the 17th century in the area of the church on the east bank of the river Bene. The main street Detks, the Árpád útca, was formed. Detk grew rapidly in the middle of the 19th century and the first houses were built in today's Dobó István utca. In the 1830s, more than 1,000 people lived in Detk for the first time. At that time, viticulture was planned there.

In 1900 Detk had exceeded the mark of 1,600 inhabitants. After the introduction of state socialism, a TSZ (Magyar counterpart to the East German LPG ) was founded in Detk . With the industrialization of the city of Gyöngyös , many Detk residents emigrated at the beginning of the second half of the 20th century. In the 1960s, the lignite deposits near Detk were developed and the Visonta opencast mine went into regular operation from 1969, which permanently changed the face of the place. Today the area around Detk is characterized by open-cast lignite mining. In 1972 Detk was merged with the neighboring village of Ludas to form a community, and then in 1978 it was incorporated into the village of Halmajugra . At that time the public administration of Detk was expanded. After the reunification, Detk became an independent municipality again.
