history
The first recorded place name form dates from 1350 as Dewicz . The Dewitz Church is a Romanesque building dating from the 13th century, which has remained structurally unchanged since then. Of the original 3 bells, 2 are still there today. In the interior there is a single-storey west gallery on which the organ has its place. Builder and construction time are unknown, in 2007 it was restored. Noteworthy is a polygonal pulpit with painted representations of Moses with the tablets of the law and Christ. The pulpit dates from around 1560, it originally comes from the Kulkwitz-Knautnaundorf church.
In 1814 August Schumann mentions Dewitz in the State, Post and Newspaper Lexicon of Saxony concerning a. a .:
"It has 146 inhabitants with 26 ½ magazine hooves and a mother church with the Sehlis branch , which are under the inspection of Leipzig and whose patronage rights are held by the City Council in Leipzig. - Between this village and Taucha is the so-called Sattelhof Dewitz, which has its own courts and 155 inhabitants. "
Albert Schiffner added or corrected 1828, among others:
“The very long village corridor extends to the preuss. Gränze, and raint with Taucha, Gordemitz and Pöritzsch in Prussia, and with Sehlis. The saddle yard is an insignificant official estate, on the land of which a number of Häusler huts are set up; Therefore, although the place has almost 350 souls, it does not form a respectable community. The Sattelhof is close to the village, not in the middle between here and Taucha, [...]. A hop mountain is part of it. The entire parish has 500 souls and only has the only school to Debitz. "
The first documented form of place name for Döbitz dates from the end of the 15th century as Dobitschen , originally there was probably a common name for Dewitz and Döbitz.
Until 1856, Dewitz and Döbitz were part of the Electoral Saxon and Royal Saxon District Office in Leipzig . From 1856 both places belonged to the Taucha court office and from 1875 to the Leipzig district administration . In 1929 Döbitz was incorporated into Dewitz. In 1937 Dewitz and Döbitz were incorporated into Taucha.
