history
The first written mention dates from 1350 as Selicz . August Schumann mentions Sehlis in the State Lexicon of Saxony in 1824 concerning a. a .:
“It is pleasantly situated between the right bank of the Parde and a hill crowned by the windmill that is too far to stand - as the area is a bit hilly and alternating enough with mixed bushes and fertile meadows. [...] The village has a lot of goods, is therefore wealthy, and has over 160 residents in some 30 houses, of which 138 were stated in 1801. They have 28 hooves of good field, build some flax , and breed heavily; there are also some butchers here who are allowed to sell in Leipzig. The church, an unsightly building with a misshapen tower, lies in the depths under the hill, and is the branch of Dewitz, ¼ hour north. Sand is being dug on the hill of the windmill. "
Until 1856, Sehlis was part of the Electoral Saxon or Royal Saxon District Office in Leipzig . From 1856 the place belonged to the Taucha court office and from 1875 to the Leipzig District Administration .
On May 12, 1912, a tornado swept over the town, causing great damage to buildings and devastated lands. The event brought the small town into the headlines across Germany. About the destruction reported at the time u. a. the Coburger Zeitung in 2 articles. 60,000 disaster tourists visited the damage in the following days, even the Saxon King Friedrich August III. was among them.
1973 Sehlis was incorporated into Taucha.

Katharinenkirche Sehlis
Around 1500 Sehlis was a branch church of Dewitz and retained this status even after the Reformation in 1540. At the site of today's church building, a predecessor made of wood already existed around 1100. Around 1200 this was replaced by a stone building with a semicircular apse and in 1250 today's church with a rectangular nave and choir, which are separated by a round arch, and a tower on the west side, arose from this. The cemetery is located around the church building. The sacristy was added around 1400. The oldest surviving church book dates from 1665 . In 1718 the church received a new altar and in 1795 the belfry was renewed. This originally carried 3 bells, of which the large and middle bells date from approx. 1430 and 1530 respectively - the smallest was removed during World War II and not replaced again. In 1810 the building got bigger windows and the organ was renewed, in 1835 the church underwent further alterations. In 1875 it received a new organ from Master Schrickel from Eilenburg and in 1900 a mechanical tower clock. On May 12, 1912, the church roof and that of the tower were covered by a tire, and the cemetery was devastated. In 1972 a joint parish of Taucha-Dewitz-Sehlis was formed. In 1978 the stalls, pulpit, altar, gallery and remnants of the organ were removed or destroyed under the pretext of making it accessible for the disabled. In 1980/81 an archaeological rescue excavation marked the provisional end of its use as a place of worship.
After the political change in 1990, the first securing work was carried out on the structural shell. In the period that followed, up to 2001, extensive work was carried out to restore it and use it as a place of worship. The interior renovation was completed in 2000 and a new altar was consecrated on Maundy Thursday 2001. In 2004 the building received a loan organ from Allmendingen near Ulm and in 2005 it was purchased.
