The Semmeling Affair is a six-part German television play by Dieter Wedel that was broadcast on ZDF in 2002 .

action

Mario Adorf played the Senator "Beton-Walter"

The main actors in the family saga are Sigi Semmeling, his parents Bruno and Trude, Semmeling's wife Silke and Hamburg's First Mayor Dr. Hennig, parliamentary group leader Axel Ropert, the building senator Walter Wegener and the entrepreneur Asmus.

Bruno and his wife Trude Semmeling, married for more than 40 years, are putting the legacy of an uncle into the renovation of their house. When the tax office demands an additional tax payment of 270,000 DM on this inheritance, they have a huge problem. Meanwhile, Semmeling's son Sigi, originally a teacher and head of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung in Jamaica, is making a political career with the SPD and his wife Silke with the Greens in Hamburg, mainly because Sigi witnessed a crooked deal between Mayor Dr. Hennig and the entrepreneur Asmus and the "sponsors" want to buy Semmeling's silence.

After an attack on himself and a high loss of votes in the elections for the Hamburg citizenship , Hennig resigns and the chairman of the SPD parliamentary group, Axel Ropert, will succeed him with the votes of the Greens. He starts an affair with the new MP Silke, and her marriage to Sigi falls apart.

Sigi continues to receive support from Ropert and soon takes over the management of the Senate Chancellery as a State Councilor and ultimately even moves up to the Senate. At the very end, Sigi Semmeling is introduced by the former first mayor Hennig, who now belongs to the federal government as federal minister, to the federal chancellor , who can only be seen from behind, as his state secretary . Then the multi-part ends.

References to other Semmeling films

The Semmeling family, represented by Bruno and Trude Semmeling, appears for the first time in the three-part Once in a Lifetime - Story of a Home from 1972, where they go through all the difficulties in building a house. The family saga is continued in the second film from 1976 All Years Again - The Semmeling Family , where the family goes on a skiing holiday. There the son was called Kai , but Sigi in the film Die Affäre Semmeling .

In addition, there are z. Dialogue passages from Once in a Lifetime and a scene in which Bruno Semmeling looks at old recordings of his family in Super 8 format , which are actually film clips from Once in a Lifetime .
