The Tuesday women ... on the Way of St. James to true friendship is a German television film by Olaf Kreinsen from 2011. It is the first film in the trilogy The Tuesday women by Monika Peetz .

action

The friends Caroline, Eva, Estelle and Judith have met every month on a Tuesday for 15 years. Once a year they take a short vacation together. All four are very different. Caroline is a successful lawyer and has been married for years. Eva is a typical “little housemaid” who goes above and beyond her family and who is naturally spoiled by her too much, which does not exactly promote the independence of the three children and the husband. Estelle is a wealthy entrepreneur with spoiled claims and Judith is the most sensitive of all and a little esoteric . She therefore suggests making a pilgrimage to Lourdes this year . Her recently deceased husband had regularly spent his holidays on the French part of the Camino de Santiago and therefore she would like to be close to him again on this way. The loyal friends agree and go on the grueling tour together. Arne's diary serves as a guide and every time Judith reads it, she wallows in old memories.

After a short time, Caroline turns out to be a strict vacation manager and takes the decisions in her hand. Eva still can't break away from her family and is constantly on the phone because those who stayed at home are totally lost without their trusted family manager. The fun-loving and always perfectly styled Estelle, on the other hand, has some problems with her specially made off-road suitcase to overcome the not always flat nature trails. Over time on their pilgrimage, the lives of the four friends change and the first tensions arise. For Caroline, the notes in Arne's diary seem increasingly strange and she has the feeling that these notes would lead them on the wrong track, which should not be entirely wrong, because Estelle discovers on the Internet that Arne copied the directions there. Judith, however, is determined to continue "his" path and initially sticks to this route. Only when she noticed the name Dominique in the diary does it slowly become clear that Judith's husband's travels were obviously not about enlightenment and self-knowledge. In the course of the trip, however, several delicate secrets come to light and the friendship of the four is put to a severe test. So Caroline learns that Judith of all people has a relationship with her husband and that she wanted to do a little penance with the pilgrimage. Eva realizes that she doesn't have to put up with everything from her family and that it does her very good to represent her interests and opinions. And Estelle realizes that she can show a vulnerable side in her life and doesn't have to cover everything with a lot of superficialities.

Reviews

Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv says: “Four friends on the Way of St. James. During the pilgrimage, what has been buried comes to the surface, the different temperaments become visible, tensions increase ... The Degeto production 'Die Tuesdaysfrauen' puts a bit of pressure on the cognitive gland, but this film with strong dialogue is overall a pleasant change from the materially rather unimaginative entertainment film. Genus. Kriener, Friedrich & Co are great! "

At tv-kult.com they are of the opinion: “With the four main actors, a wonderful cast was chosen. In my opinion, on the one hand they complement each other perfectly and on the other hand they also form an interesting contrast to each other. The women are completely different in their own way and have different interests and goals that they still want to realize in life. [...] The director's portrayal of the individual characters is also good and convincing. "

In his comparative analysis of feature films about pilgrimages, Detlef Lienau positively emphasizes the "irritating cinematic link between the Way of St. James and Lourdes": This "makes narrative sense as an interplay of path and goal, social and explicitly religious motifs, purification and newness." He observes a contrast between the very traditional to anachronistic portrayed religion and the entertaining-contemporary interaction of the friends. Religion is described as a shelter that enables admission of guilt, repentance and active penance. As in the other popular pilgrimage films, death plays an eminently important role.
