The engaged (original title: I promessi sposi ) is an Italian film produced for television by the director Salvatore Nocita from 1989 . In the original it has five parts and was produced by the Italian television company RAI . The plot is based on the novel The Fiancee by the Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni .

In Italy in the 17th century in the area of Lake Como, the silk moth Renzo and the farmer's daughter Lucia to marry. But the pastor refuses to marry them, because the liege lord Don Rodrigo has his eyes on the beautiful Lucia.

German charisma
The series was first shown in Germany on ARD between April and June 1992. However, it was not broadcast in five parts, as in the original, but in eight parts according to the program. When it was repeated in BR 1996, four episodes, each 90 minutes long, were broadcast.
