The shooting took place in the Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh in spring 2019 . Patrick Orth acted as cameraman . The German co-production company is Razor Film Produktion in Berlin.

From August 29, 2019, the film was shown in the main competition at the Venice Film Festival , where it competed for the Golden Lion . In September 2019 the film was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of the Contemporary World Cinema section and in October 2019 at the London Film Festival in the official competition, and at the end of October 2019 also at the Hof International Film Festival . In January 2020 there was a screening at the Palm Springs International Film Festival . Also in January 2020 it was shown in the Spotlight section at the Sundance Film Festival . The theatrical release in Germany took place on March 12, 2020. On March 27, 2020 it should come to cinemas in the UK. As part of the Göteborg International Film Festival , the film is to be made available as video-on-demand due to the coronavirus pandemic . From the beginning of September 2020 it will be presented in the open-air edition of the Festival of German Films .
