Dieter Boyer

Dieter Boyer (* 1969 in Graz ) is an Austrian theater director . From 2013 to 2018 he worked as a cultural policy advisor to the City Council for Culture, Science and Sport in Vienna. He is currently head of department at the Music and Art University of the City of Vienna, responsible for external relations, development and quality assurance.

Life

His artistic career began in the independent theater scene in his hometown of Graz, where he also helped to build up the theater group Theater im Bahnhof . After studying German and media at the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz and the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Castilla y León in Valladolid , Boyer went to the Schaubühne Berlin and the Burgtheater Vienna as an assistant director . a. with Claus Peymann and Martin Kušej assisted. This was followed by a short study visit to the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University . In the years that followed, he brought out well-received productions on various German-speaking stages. Above all, his staging of contemporary drama attracted a lot of attention. He staged numerous world premieres and commissioned works such as B. Illusions by Ivan Wyrypajev and Radicals by Ulrike Syha .

From 2002 to 2010 he taught regularly for the UniT dramatists' workshops at the KF University Graz (Johannes Schrettle, Ewald Palmetshofer , Jörg Albrecht and many more). As artistic director and curator, Boyer designed festivals for “ Forum Stadtpark ”, “ Theater Chemnitz ” and the “Janus EU Project”. In addition to his artistic work, he completed his studies in intercultural skills at Danube University Krems and cultural management at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna . Dieter Boyer has been working in the political office of the Vienna City Council for Culture since 2013 as a theater advisor. The area of ​​responsibility includes all matters of the City of Vienna in the field of theater, opera, dance and performance. Since November 2015, the area of ​​expertise has expanded to include all music and literature agendas. Since 2014 he has been a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in the postgraduate course in cultural management.

He was a member of the supervisory board of the Theater in der Josefstadt , the United Bühnen Wien , the Wiener Symphoniker and the Wiener Festwochen , an advisory board member of the Volkstheater Wien , and a board member of the Vienna Chamber Opera .
