Dietrich von Taube

Dietrich von Taube (* 1594 in Maart ; † January 29, 1639 in Dresden ), was Oberhofmarschall Elector Johann Georgs I of Saxony and Governor of Upper Lusatia .

Life

Dietrich von Taube was the third son of Johann von Taube , Herr auf Maart and Anna, née. of roses . He joined the Electoral Saxon service in 1603 and was initially captain of the artillery and treasurer of Duke Johann Georgs von Sachsen. When he succeeded his childless brother Christian II on the throne of Electoral Saxony, von Taube was appointed lieutenant colonel and travel stableman. This was followed in 1617 by the appointment as head stable master and finally head marshal. He also led a regiment in the Thirty Years War .

After the Catholic Karl Hannibal von Dohna, who was loyal to the emperor, died in Prague in 1633 and Johann Georg I had allied himself with Sweden in 1631 , the office of governor of Upper Lusatia remained vacant, as this was held by both the emperor and the elector after the Upper Lusatian immissions recession of 1623 should be awarded together. However, when, with the traditional recession of 1636, the Margraviate of Upper Lusatia was given to the Elector of Saxony as a hereditary fief of the Bohemian Crown and thus the latter was granted the sole occupation of the four most important offices of the state, governor, counter-trader and chamber tax, the Oberhofmarschall Dietrich could now Von Taube was appointed as the first Saxon governor of Upper Lusatia in 1637.

He had already settled in Upper Lusatia and owned the Großharthau , Goldbach and Frankenthal estates here , as well as Neukirchen and Höckericht in the Ore Mountains .

Dietrich von Taube was with Veronika, geb. von Lützelburg married. Together they had a daughter and a son Johann Dietrich von Taube, who inherited his father's goods, but died childless in 1647 while studying in Altdorf .

For his services, Dietrich von Taube was elevated to the status of imperial baron on June 19, 1638 .
