The Cairani district is located in the Candarave Province in the Tacna region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on December 4, 1952. It has an area of 176 km². The 2017 census counted 1036 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1500, in 2007 it was 1355. The district administration is located in the 3400 m high village of Cairani with 440 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cairani is 12 km west of the provincial capital Candarave .
Geographical location
The Cairani district is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica in the southwest of the Candarave province. The Río Camilaca flows along the northwestern district boundary to the southwest.
The Cairani district borders in the southwest on the Ilabaya district ( Jorge Basadre province ), in the northwest on the Camilaca district , in the northeast on the Candarave district and in the southeast on the Huanuara district .
