The Candarave district is located in the Candarave Province in the Tacna region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of 1381 km². The 2017 census counted 2502 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3418, in 2007 it was 3174. The district administration is located in the provincial capital Candarave, 3415 m high, with 1043 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Candarave district is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica . It extends over the north and east of the Candarave province. The Río Callazas drains the area south to the Laguna Aricota . The Yucamani and Tutupaca volcanoes are located in the district .
The district of Candarave borders in the southwest with the districts Quilahuani and Huanuara , in the west with the districts Cairani and Camilaca , in the northwest and in the north with the districts Torata and Carumas (both in the province of Mariscal Nieto ), in the northeast with the district Santa Rosa ( El Collao province ), to the east and southeast to the districts of Susapaya and Sitajara (both in the province of Tarata ).
