The district of Camilaca is located in the province of Candarave in the Tacna region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on It has an area of 493 km². The 2017 census counted 1221 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2263, in 2007 it was 1724. The district administration is located in the village of Camilaca, 3350 m above sea level . Camilaca is 13.5 km west of the provincial capital Candarave .
Geographical location
The district of Camilaca is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcánica in the extreme southwest of the province of Candarave. The Río Callazas flows in the northeast in sections along the district boundary to the south. The Río Camilaca, upper reaches of the Río Ilabaya , flows along the southeastern district boundary to the southwest. In the northeast rises the 5805 m high Tutupaca volcano .
The district of Camilaca borders in the southwest on the district of Ilabaya ( province of Jorge Basadre ), in the west on the district of Torata ( province of Mariscal Nieto ), in the northeast on the district of Candarave and in the southeast on the district of Cairani .
