The Curibaya district is located in the Candarave Province in the Tacna region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on February 5, 1875. It has an area of 112 km². The 2017 census counted 402 residents. In 1993, the population was 268, in 2007 at 203. The district administration is in about 2410 m high altitude resort Curibaya with 306 inhabitants (2017). Curibaya is 15 km southwest of the provincial capital Candarave .
Geographical location
The Curibaya district is located on the southern flank of the Cordillera Volcaánica in the south of the Candarave province. The district includes the western part of the Laguna Aricota and the downstream valley of the Río Curibaya.
The Curibaya district borders in the southwest on the Ilabaya district ( Jorge Basadre province ), in the north on the Huanuara district , in the northeast on the Quilahuani district and in the southeast on the Héroes Albarracín district ( Tarata province ).
