The district of Chilcaymarca is located in the province of Castilla in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on October 29, 1923. It has an area of ​​182 km². The 2017 census counted 1,025 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 379, in 2007 it was 842. The district administration is located in the 3850  m high village of Chilcaymarca with 659 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chilcaymarca is just 90 km north of the provincial capital Aplao . Mining is carried out in the district.

Geographical location

The district of Chilcaymarca is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the northwest of the province of Castilla. The Río Andahua crosses the district in a southerly direction and ends in the Laguna de Chachas . The shallow runoff of the lake south to the Río Colca is blocked by lava flows.

The district of Chilcaymarca borders in the south on the district Andagua , in the west on the district Cayarani ( province Condesuyos ) and in the east on the district Orcopampa .
