The district of Pampacolca is located in the province of Castilla in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​266 km². The 2017 census counted 2152 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 3940, in 2007 it was 3171. The district administration is located in the 2950  m high village of Pampacolca with 1513 inhabitants (as of 2017). Pampacolca is located about 40 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Aplao .

Geographical location

The Pampacolca district is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the far west of the province of Castilla. In the far north rises the 6425  m high volcano Nevado Coropuna . The area is drained south to the Río Colca .

The Pampacolca district borders in the extreme south on the Iray district , in the west on the Chuquibamba district , in the northwest on the Andaray district , in the extreme north on the Salamanca district (all four above-mentioned districts belong to the Condesuyos province ), in the northeast on the district Viraco and in the southeast to the Tipán district .
