The district of Uñón is located in the province of Castilla in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on June 18, 1962. It has an area of ​​339 km². The 2017 census counted 221 residents. In 1993 the population was 243, in 2007 it was 366. The district administration is located in the 2782  m high village of Uñón with 131 inhabitants (as of 2017). Uñón is about 40 km north of the provincial capital Aplao .

Geographical location

The district of Uñón is located in the Cordillera Volcánica in the center of the province of Castilla. The district is bordered in the south by the Río Colca and in the west by its tributary Río Capiza.

The UNON district is bordered to the south by the district Huancarqui , in the southwest of the district Aplao , on the west by the district Tipán , in the northwest on the district Machaguay , in the northeast on the district Ayo and the southeast by the district Huambo ( province of Caylloma ).
