The district of Uraca is located in the province of Castilla in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district has an area of 693 km². The 2017 census counted 6936 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 6651, in 2007 it was 7182. The district administration is located in the 429 m high town of Corire with 2506 inhabitants (as of 2017). Corire is 16.5 km south-southeast of the provincial capital Aplao . To the west of Corire is the Toro Muerto petroglyph .
Geographical location
The district of Uraca extends over the plateau south of the Cordillera Volcánica in the extreme south of the province of Castilla. The Río Majes crosses the district in a southerly direction. Irrigated agriculture is practiced along the river bank. Otherwise the area is desert-like.
The district Uraca bordered to the west by the district Chuquibamba ( province Condesuyos ), in the northwest on the district Aplao , in the northeast on the district Huancarqui , on the east by the district Majes ( province of Caylloma ) and in the south by the district Nicolás de Piérola ( Province Camaná ).
