The Iray district is located in the Condesuyos Province in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was established on November 26, 1917. It has an area of ​​238 km². The 2017 census counted 641 residents. In 1993, the population was 774, in 2007 at 707. The district administration is in about 2460  m high altitude resort Iray with 384 inhabitants (2017). Iray is 3 km southeast of the provincial capital Chuquibamba .

Geographical location

The Iray District is located in the southeast of the Condesuyos Province. The Quebrada de Huario, a right tributary of the Río Majes , crosses the district in a south-easterly direction.

The Iray district borders in the east and south on the Aplao district ( Castilla province ), in the west on the Chuquibamba district and in the far north on the Pampacolca district (Castilla province).
