The district of Chichas is located in the province of Condesuyos in the Arequipa region in southwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of ​​391 km². The 2017 census counted 726 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 1148, in 2007 it was 832. The district administration is located in the 2120  m high village of Chichas with 357 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chichas is located 43 km northwest of the provincial capital Chuquibamba .

Geographical location

The district of Chichas extends over the lower catchment area of the Río Chichas, left tributary of the Río Ocoña . In the northeast of the district rises the 6,093  m high Solimana volcano .

The Chichas district is bordered by the Yanaquihua district to the south , the Toro district ( La Unión province ) to the west and north and the Salamanca district to the east .
