The La Unión District is located in the province of Piura of Piura Region in northwestern Peru . The district has an area of ​​213.16 km². In the 2017 census, 41,742 people lived in the district. In 1993 the population was 27,935, in 2007 36,000. The administrative seat is in the small town of La Unión .

Geographical location

The district of La Unión is located in the west of the province of Piura. It has a longitudinal extent in NW-SE direction of about 40 km and a maximum width of 11.5 km. The district is located 25 km southwest of the regional capital Piura . It lies west of the river Piura and extends over the arid landscape of the coastal desert of northwest Peru. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the east of the district. The city of La Unión is also located there.

The district of La Unión borders in the northwest on the province of Sullana , in the north on the district La Arena , in the east on the district El Tallán , in the south on the province of Sechura and in the west on the province of Paita .
