The Mazamari district is located in the Satipo Province in the Junín region in central Peru . The district was established on March 26, 1965. It has an area of 2134 km². The 2017 census counted 35,719 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 12,487, in 2007 28,269. The seat of the district administration is the 676 m high town Mazamari with 15,454 inhabitants (as of 2017). Mazamari is 14 km southeast of the provincial capital Satipo .
Geographical location
The Mazamari district is centrally located in the Satipo Province on the eastern flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Ene forms the eastern district border, along the northern district border run the Río Pangoa and Río Perené .
The Mazamari district is bordered by the Pangoa district in the southwest , the Llaylla , Coviriali and Satipo districts in the northwest , and the Río Tambo district in the east .
