The Satipo district is located in the Satipo Province in the Junín region in central Peru . The district was established on September 18, 1940. It has an area of 816 km². The 2017 census counted 37,075 residents. In 1993 the population was 23,605, in 2007 it was 36,307. The seat of the district administration is the 632 m high provincial capital Satipo with 23,203 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The Satipo district is located in the north-west of the Satipo Province on the eastern flank of the Peruvian Central Cordillera . The Río Satipo crosses the district in an easterly direction. The Río Perené forms the northeastern boundary of the district.
The Satipo district is bordered to the west by the district Pichanaqui ( chanchamayo province ), in the northwest on the district of Rio Negro , in the northeast on the district Río Tambo , in the southeast of the district Mazamari , in the central south by the district Coviriali and on the southwest by the Pampa Hermosa district .
