The Pampamarca district is located in the Canas Province in the Cusco region in south-central Peru . The district was founded on August 29, 1834. It has an area of ​​31.2 km². The 2017 census counted 1,889 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2047, in 2007 it was 1924. The seat of the district administration is the town of Pampamarca with 828 inhabitants located on the southeastern shore of the Laguna Pampamarca at an altitude of 3811  m (as of 2017). Pampamarca is located 8.5 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Yanaoca .

Geographical location

The Pampamarca district is located in the Andean highlands in the extreme northeast of the Canas province. The district covers about the eastern third of the lake Laguna Pampamarca. In the northeast the district extends to the Río Vilcanota .

The Pampamarca district borders in the south on the district Yanaoca , in the east on the district Túpac Amaru , in the northwest on the district Mosoc Llacta ( province Acomayo ), in the northeast on the district Combapata and in the east on the district Tinta (the last two districts mentioned) belong to the province of Canchis ).
