The Tongod District is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah . The administrative seat is the small town of Tongod . Tongod District is part of the Sandakan Division area to which Beluran , Kinabatangan , Sandakan, and Tongod districts belong.
history
The current district was initially established in 1977 as a sub-district of the Kota Kinabatangan district. The daerah kecil (“small district”) was entrusted to Charles Andau from Keningau, who had the rank of “ADO” ( assistant district officer ) and was formally subordinate to the district officer of the Kinabatangan district.
On March 1, 1999, Tongod was raised to an independent district. Major Matthew Sator from Ranau was appointed the first district officer with effect from May 24, 1999. With the elevation to the status of a full-fledged district, the construction of a new administration building went hand in hand with the replacement of the first secretariat building.

religion
The majority of the district's residents are of different Christian faiths (70%). Another 29% are Muslims; the remaining residents are Buddhists (0.8%) or listed as “other” (0.2%).
