The Ranau District is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah . The administrative seat is the city of Ranau . The district is part of the West Coast Division area which includes the districts of Kota Kinabalu , Ranau, Kota Belud , Tuaran , Penampang , Putatan and Papar .
geography
The entire district extends over an area of 1978.5 km², but it is planned to move the border between Tambunan and Beluran, which would increase the area to 3555.51 km².
Demographics
The population of the district is 94,092 people according to the last census. Ranau is mainly populated by the indigenous Dusun group . There is also a small Chinese community of Hakka , Hokkien and other Chinese who settled in Ranau a long time ago. In addition, one can find Malays , Kadazan , Murut and other indigenous peoples of Sabah. Because of the agricultural nature of the region, there is also a significant number of foreign workers from Indonesia and the Philippines who are employed on large farms and plantations. Indians only make up a tiny fraction of the population.
The multicultural composition of the population has given the region a large number of bi-national marriages; In particular, the Sino-Dusun partnerships should be emphasized here.
Administrative headquarters
The administrative seat of the district is the city of Ranau.
