The Pitas District is an administrative district in the Malaysian state of Sabah . The administrative seat is the city of Pitas . The district is part of the Kudat Division area to which the Kudat , Pitas and Kota Marudu districts belong.

Demographics

According to the last census in 2010, the population of the district is 37,808 and consists mainly of Rungus , a subgroup of the Kadazan and Orang Sungai (which also include the Tambanuas ). As in many other regions of Sabah, there are significant numbers of illegal immigrants from the nearby Philippines , especially from Sulu and Mindanao , who are not recorded in the population statistics. The city of Pitas has only 895 inhabitants, the remaining part of the total population is distributed over the 194 settlements ( kampung ) in the district.

Administrative headquarters

The administrative seat of the district is the city of Pitas.

Pitas gained full district status in 1975. The 194 settlements in the district are grouped into the six mukim Kalumpang, Pinggan-Pinggan, Telaga, Dandun, Pantai and Mapan-Mapan.

politics

Pitas belongs to the constituency P.167 ( Kudat ) and is represented in the Malaysian Parliament by YB Datuk Abd. Rahim Bakri (BN-UMNO). In the Legislative Assembly of Sabah ( Dewan Undangan Negeri Sabah ) the district is represented by YB Datuk Masrani Parman (BN-UMNO) from the constituency of Pitas N.3.
