The Yauyos District is located in the Jauja Province in the Junín Region in southwest-central Peru . The district was established on January 25, 1965. It has an area of ​​19.6 km². At the 2017 census, there were 8,992 residents in Yauyos. In 1993 the population was 9012, in 2007 it was 9377. The administrative center is the small town of Yauyos at an altitude of 3410  m with 8637 inhabitants (as of 2017). Yauyos is a southern suburb of the provincial capital Jauja and is only 600 m from the city center.

Geographical location

The district of Yauyos is centrally located in the Andean highlands in the province of Jauja. The district is located on the left bank of the east-flowing Río Mantaro .

The district of Yauyos borders in the southwest with the district Parco , in the northwest with the district Marco , in the north with the district Acolla , in the northeast with the district Jauja , in the east with the district Sausa and in the southeast with the district Huaripampa .
