history

Witkow was founded in 1290 by several brothers from the Zittau area . The four-kilometer-long village, subject to the rule of Hammerstein and later to the rule of Reichenberg , was divided in 1615. Nieder Wittig, as well as Ober Wittig, received their own local judge. The church was in Ober Wittig, the residents of the place had become Protestant in the 16th century. In 1652 the Counter-Reformation set in and numerous residents left Bohemia because of their faith as exiles .

In 1706, the notorious Count Gallasse inspector Karl Christian Platz received Ober and Nieder Wittig from Ehrenthal as a fief. He had a manor house built in Ober Wittig. During the Seven Years' War the Prussians occupied the village for three days and plundered it. In 1830 Nieder Wittig consisted of 96 houses and had 652 inhabitants. At that time there were three mills in the place.

After the abolition of patrimonial , Nieder Wittig formed a community in the Reichenberg district administration from 1850. During the German War in 1866 the Prussian army crossed the border into Austria at Hackelsberg and caused great damage in the village. In 1930 there were 537 people living in the community.

After the Munich Agreement , the village was added to the German Reich in 1938 and belonged to the Reichenberg district until 1945 . In 1939 Nieder Wittig only had 502 inhabitants. In 1944 it merged with Ober Wittig to form a municipality of Wittig .

After the war ended, the village came back to Czechoslovakia and the German residents were expelled. Until 1960, Dolní Vítkov belonged as part of the municipality Vítkov to the Okres Liberec-okolí and then to the Okres Liberec . In 1980 it was incorporated into Chrastava . In 1991 the place had 220 inhabitants. In 2001 the village consisted of 56 houses in which 257 people lived.
