Dominic Jala

Dominic Jala SDB (born July 12, 1951 in Mawlai , Meghalaya , India ; † October 10, 2019 in Colusa County , California , USA ) was an Indian religious and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Shillong .

Life

Dominic Jala joined the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco and received the sacrament of ordination on November 19, 1977 after his theological training . He was Provincial of his Order in Guwahati Province.

On December 22, 1999, Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Shillong. The Archbishop of Guwahati , Thomas Menamparampil SDB , donated him episcopal ordination on April 2, 2000 ; Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Imphal , Joseph Mittathany , and the Bishop of Tura , George Mamalassery .

On October 15, 2016 he was also appointed Apostolic Administrator of Nongstoin for the duration of the Sedis vacancy .

Dominic Jala was from 2003 to 2007 and since 2015 chairman of the liturgy commission of the Indian bishops' conference CCBI and a member of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy (ICEL). On October 28, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .

He died as a result of a car accident.
