Don Samuelson

Donald William Samuelson (born July 27, 1913 in Woodhull , Henry County , Illinois , † January 20, 2000 in Seattle , Washington ) was an American politician and governor of the state of Idaho from 1967 to 1961 .

Career

Don Samuelson attended Knox College and then served for two years in the US Navy , where he was involved in the care and maintenance of weapons. After retirement, he ran a sports shop in Sandpoint , Idaho. He also sold supplies and equipment for the mining industry.

Samuelson became a member of the Republican Party . Between 1960 and 1966 he was a member of the Idaho House of Representatives . In 1966 he was elected the new governor of his state. He held this office between January 2, 1967 and January 4, 1971. He became known when he rejected 39 proposals with his veto in 1967. During his governor's tenure, he served on the board of directors of the National Governors Association . After his term of office, Don Samuelson withdrew into his private life. He died of a heart attack on January 20, 2000 at the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. He and his wife Ruby had two children.
