The Doppelbiergraben rises northwest of Alzenau , near the state border with Bavaria . It runs to the west and reaches the Rote Lache quarry forest (also known as the double beer sump), of which it is the main tributary. The Limes once ran in this area . The Doppelbiergraben crosses under the Bundesautobahn 45 and flows into the area of the Wolfgang industrial park . In this area he is completely rotten . At the state road 3483 (formerly federal road 43 ) it emerges from the underground again, crosses under the Kinzig valley railway and the federal road 43a and flows north of Hanau-Wolfgang into the Kinzig .

Hydrology
For decades there have been more and more dry spells in which the Doppelbiergraben completely dries up. It had water all year round until the end of the 20th century. To prevent the entire Rote Lache from falling dry along with the stream, a weir was built at the Doppelbiergraben to keep the winter water in the alder forest longer.
Since an incident in the industrial park on December 12, 1990, a slight alpha activity could be found in the sediment of the Doppelbiergraben . Rainwater enriched with uranium got into the Doppelbiergraben.
