Andreas Dorau (born January 19, 1964 ) is a German musician . His most famous hit in Germany is the NDW song Fred vom Jupiter (1981). In France he landed a top 10 hit with Girls in Love (1996). In 2017 he made it into the album charts for the first time with his tenth album Die Liebe und der Ärger der Andere . He succeeded again with the follow-up album Das Essentials (2019), which appeared exactly two years later (34th place).

Life

Dorau is the son of a Protestant pastor, who as a member of the professing church in the time of National Socialism was imprisoned several times. Dorau learned to play guitar from Holger Hiller ( Palais Schaumburg ). He wrote at the age of 15 years as part of a school AG later NDW -Hit Fred vom Jupiter, he against the wishes of his teachers the label Ata Tak presently give, after he recorded the song along with the Marinas again. The single became a major independent hit on Neue Deutsche Welle.

In 1982 he appeared with Albert Oehlen under the title Evergreens of Psychoterror in order to "bring everything that annoys together".

Dorau studied at the University of Television and Film , Munich (thesis: Schlag Dein Tier ), wrote film music (for Manta - Der Film, among others ) and worked as a freelance video consultant (for Mousse T. , Xavier Naidoo , Söhne Mannheims, among others ).

The partner on his three albums from 1992 to 1997 was the musician Tommi Eckart , now one half of the duo 2raumwohnung . Most of the texts on his albums are written by Andreas Dorau himself, but Wolfgang Müller from Die Tödliche Doris has also written numerous texts for him since the 1990s .

In 1997 Wolfgang Voigt's Grungerman remix of the Dorau single Girls in Love reached the French charts and entered the top 10.

On the occasion of his 50th birthday in 2014, he released the album “Aus der Bibliothèque” along with a best-of album. He played this for the first time with a band, namely with the League of Ordinary Gentlemen , the successor band to Superpunk .

Dorau lives in Hamburg.
