Eyawomano Doreen Amata (born May 6, 1988 in Lagos ) is a Nigerian high jumper .

Athletic career

Doreen Amata gained her first international experience at the Africa Games 2007 in Algiers , where she won the gold medal with a jump of 1.89 m. The following year, she succeeded at the Africa Championships in Addis Ababa not a valid attempt, but qualified for participation in the Olympic Games in Beijing , where they m with 1.89 in the first round was eliminated, as well as at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin with 1.85 m. Two years later she finished seventh at the World Championships in Daegu with 1.93 m in the final and defended her title at the Africa Games in Maputo with a height of 1.80 m. In 2012 she was fourth at the African Championships in Porto-Novo with 1.75 m and did not get beyond the qualification at the Olympic Games in London with 1.90 m .

In 2015 she reached twelfth place in the final at the World Championships in Beijing with 1.88 m and won the silver medal behind Lissa Labiche from the Seychelles at the African Games in Brazzaville with 1.85 m . The following year she was at the World Indoor Championships in Portland with skipped 1.89 m ninth and won the silver medal behind Labiche at the African Championships in Durban with 1.82 m. In addition, she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro for the third time , where she was eliminated again in the qualification with 1.89 m . She was also the flag bearer of her country at the final event. In 2018 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast for the first time , where she came in tenth with 1.80 m. The following year she finished fifth at her fourth Africa Games in Rabat with a height of 1.78 m.

From 2007 to 2009, as well as from 2011 to 2013 and 2015, Amata was the Nigerian champion in high jump. She graduated from Lagos State University .
