History, building description and equipment

The village church of Zerrenthin dates from the second half of the 13th century and is bordered by a dry stone wall along with the churchyard. Your nave is a field stone building made of layered granite blocks. Striking is the transverse rectangular west tower, approx. 46 meters high, which is wider than the nave and carries a boarded upper floor and a copper-covered pointed helmet. Large, pointed arched step portals have been preserved on the tower and in the tower hall. On the north side of the nave there was presumably a sacristy , while on the south side a porch with a volute gable, which dates from the 17th century, is built. Both granite portals in the north and south have now been blocked. The east gable is decorated with pointed arches and a group of three windows with three-quarter bars made of brick. The remaining windows on the north and south sides were enlarged in the 19th century. In the churchyard there is a war memorial for the 32 fallen soldiers of the First World War who came from Zerrenthin.

The interior of the nave has a beamed ceiling. On the walls there are extensive remains of a circulating wall painting cycle, which presumably dates from the first half of the 16th century. The mural painting cycle was only discovered and exposed in 1970 and restored from 1994–1996. It shows scenic representations of the apostles and saints as well as tendril ornaments. In addition, the carved crucifixion group of the former altarpiece, which dates from the first half of the 18th century, is located on the west wall. The gallery was already in the 17./18. Century built. The pulpit from the 19th century is now on the ground.

In the church there is also a tombstone of the pastor Joachim Camerarius (* 1627 † 1692), who worked in Zerrenthin from 1651 to 1691, an organ from the second half of the 19th century with a neo-Gothic prospect. The Zerrenthiner church has a total of 3 church bells, one of which was cast by Martin Heintze from Berlin in 1681, according to other information in 1690. It is on permanent loan from St. Mary's Church in Pasewalk and originally comes from Rügenwalde in Western Pomerania, today's Polish Darłowo . The other two bells were cast by A. Bachert from Heilbronn in 1996 and 1997 .
