Doris Barnett b. Frenzel (born May 22, 1953 in Ludwigshafen am Rhein ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and lawyer . From 1998 to 2002 she was chairwoman of the Committee for Labor and Social Affairs of the German Bundestag.

Life

After attending elementary school and the state commercial school , Barnett worked as a typist at BASF in Ludwigshafen from 1969 to 1970 . She then attended a business high school , where she passed the Abitur in 1973 . She then completed a law degree at Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz , which she completed with the first state examination in law. After completing her legal clerkship , she also passed the second state examination in 1982. 1982 she began working as a legal secretary at the DGB and moved in 1983 in the district administrative Mainz the union public services, transport and traffic today ver.di . In 1987 she joined the HR department of TWL AG and was an employee representative on the supervisory board until 1992 . The TWL were the municipal utilities of Ludwigshafen until they were renamed. There and later at TWL AG, Barnett's father was chairman of the staff council and works council for decades. She then headed the social administration office for the city of Ludwigshafen, which was part of the social welfare office, until 1994.

Barnett became state chairwoman of the Naturfreunde Rheinland-Pfalz in 1992 and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Global Panel Foundation . She is the curator of the Oskar Patzelt Foundation . She is married, has one child and is the granddaughter of the politician and trade unionist Max Frenzel .

She has been a member of the SPD since 1971. In 1990 she became deputy chairwoman of the SPD city association of Ludwigshafen and in 1991 a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate .

Doris Barnett has been a member of the German Bundestag since 1994 . Since 1998 she has been a member of the executive committee of the SPD parliamentary group. From 1998 to 2002 she was also the chair of the Committee on Labor and Social Affairs. Since the 19th electoral term she has chaired the subcommittee on European Union issues. Barnett is also a full member of the Budget Committee and the Economic Cooperation and Development Committee . She is also a deputy member of the Committee on Election Review, Immunity and Rules of Procedure , the Committee on European Union Affairs and the Committee on Foreign Affairs .

Doris Barnett is 1994 on the national list Rhineland-Palatinate and thereafter until and including 2005, as the directly elected members of the constituency Ludwigshafen and since 2002 the constituency Ludwigshafen / Frankenthal in the Bundestag drawn in. In the 2005 Bundestag election she received 43.3% of the first votes . In 2009 , with 32.4% of the first votes, she lost the direct mandate to her CDU opponent Maria Böhmer , who achieved 38.4%, but moved back into the Bundestag via the state list. There she is a member of the Committee on Economics and Technology. In the 2013 federal election , she ran again in the same constituency against Maria Böhmer, lost and entered the Bundestag via the state list. In the 2017 federal election, it was defeated by the CDU opponent Torbjörn Kartes and moved back into the Bundestag via the state list.
