Dorothee Schumacher

Dorothee Schumacher (* 1966 in Düsseldorf ) is a German women's fashion designer and entrepreneur . It is produced by Schumacher GmbH in Mannheim for its international label Schumacher .

Career

Dorothee Schumacher received her first training at the Düsseldorf clothing store Peek & Cloppenburg , followed by an internship in an Italian knitting factory. This was followed by a stay in France, where she - u. a. inspired by the fashion designer Madame Grès (1903–1993) - was able to implement her experiences in different collections.

In 1989 she founded her own fashion label with her then husband Jörg Singhoff and expanded to Italy from 1994. The headquarters of the identical GmbH are located in Mannheim . For this purpose, Dorothee Schumacher had a former cardboard factory converted by the French architect Yves Bayard in 1998 .

The Schumacher shops in 45 countries contributed to sales of over 25 million euros (as of 2007). Her collections are represented in more than 600 fashion houses worldwide, including department stores in Dubai , New York City , Tokyo and Berlin .

Schumacher's collections consist of women's outerwear, shoes , boots and accessories such as jewelry, bags and umbrellas. Celebrity wearers of their fashion are Joy Denalane , Sophie von Kessel and Elle MacPherson .

In 2006 Schumacher GmbH was involved in the equipment for the Hollywood film The Devil Wears Prada , whereby Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep were equipped accordingly.

Dorothee Schumacher has been working with UNICEF since 2004 for the Bal Shiksha project , an educational project for disadvantaged girls in Nepal . She is also committed to the Cancer Association of South Africa against breast cancer. As a juror for the European Design Award Apolda , she is committed to promoting young fashion designers from Europe.

Private

Schumacher is the mother of four children.
