geography

location

The Dossenheimer Kopf rises in the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park and in the Bergstrasse-Odenwald Geo-Nature Park . Its summit is about 1.5 km north-north-west of Peterstal, to which it belongs, and 1.4 km south-south-west of Wilhelmsfeld . The mountain is a summit on the ridge that connects the 1.8 km west-southwestern White Stone ( 548.1  m ) with the Schriesheimer Kopf ( 529.5  m ) 1 km northeast . The area of the eponymous municipality Dossenheim , whose main town is far to the west on Bergstrasse , only borders on the small west saddle Wilhelmsfelder Eck .

On the north slope the Kanzelbach tributary Katzenbach rises at the Hesselbrunnen, south-southeast in a steep valley trough from which the pass road from Peterstal to Wilhelmsfeld rises in serpentines, the Peterstaler Bach, the left upper course of the Neckar tributary Steinbach , which itself emerges in a valley spider at the southwestern foot some short source branches converge.

Natural allocation

The Dossenheimer Kopf belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Odenwald, Spessart and Südrhön (No. 14) and in the main unit Sandstone-Odenwald (144) to the subunit Central Sandstone Ooden Forest (144.6). The border of the subunit Eichelberg-Odenwald (145.1), which belongs to the main unit of the Vorderer Odenwald (145), runs over its northern flank .

Landscape protection and nature

On the north slope of the Dossenheimer Kopf there are parts of the landscape protection area (LSG) Bergstrasse-Nord ( CDDA -Nr. 319894; designated 1997; 65.0085  km² ) and on the west to south-west slope those of the LSG Bergstrasse-Mitte (CDDA-Nr. 319892; 1973; 6.18 km²).

On the southern slope of the mountain, where hurricane Emma tore a wide storm gap on March 1, 2008, there is mostly young wood.

Traffic and walking

About 330 m east-northeast of the summit of the Dossenheimer Kopf is on the mountain pass of the state road  596 from Peterstal to Wilhelmsfeld, the Langer Kirschbaum hikers' car park with a refuge. The 90-km long HW34 , a marked with yellow Andrew's cross and of Ladenburg , among others, on the cat's back to Osterburken extending main trail of Odenwaldklub leads west of the parking lot on the north slope of the mountain. From the parking lot, the 5 km long Weißer-Stein-Weg (No. 10) runs over the southern slope of the mountain , a circular path that is wheelchair accessible in the section from the parking lot to the White Stone.

There is no forest path on the tree-lined summit, which therefore offers hardly any view, so you have to climb the approximately 20 meters in altitude to get there across the forest from the paths. On the south-eastern slope, the Weißer-Stein-Weg circular path branches off from the 200 m long adventure forest children's adventure path, which was laid out by the city of Heidelberg in 2003 .
