The Teltschikturm is a 41 m high observation tower in the Odenwald . It is near Wilhelmsfeld in the Rhein-Neckar district of Baden-Württemberg at 529.5  m above sea level. NHN high Schriesheimer Kopf in the Neckartal-Odenwald Nature Park .

The timber frame tower, built in 2001, was erected “in memory of the homeland lost in 1945 in the Sudetenland . It is sometimes illuminated in the evening and is visible from a great distance from the Upper Rhine Plain . The tower offers a wide view mainly of the Odenwald and especially of the nearby Wilhelmsfeld. It is identical to the 2002 observation tower built Hohewarte in Pforzheim district Hohenwart .

History and construction

Walter and Karin Teltschik financed the Teltschikturm through donations to the Wilhelmsfeld community. It was built according to a design by Robert Teltschik . The foundation stone was laid on April 4, 2001, the topping-out ceremony on May 18, 2001 and the inauguration on June 17, 2001. In 2016, a memorial stone to the donor Walter Teltschik was erected not far from the tower.

The construction of the 41 m high tower is carried by 40 laminated beams made of larch wood, which are based on a foundation made of around 65 m³ of reinforced concrete . The tower itself weighs around 44 tons. It has 12 ascent platforms, between which there are 16 steps of the 192-step steel spiral staircase inside the tower. The connecting parts of the tower structure and parts of the stairs are made of hot-dip galvanized steel . The floor of the observation platform at a height of 36 m, protected by a copper sheet roof, is made of oak planks.

In the Odenwald panorama, the Neunkircher Höhe ( 605  m ) rises in the north and the Hardberg ( 593.1  m ) in the north-northeast . The Reisenbach telecommunications tower can be seen in the east-northeast, which is a little east-northeast of the summit of the Hart ( 581  m ). To the east lies the Katzenbuckel ( 626.8  m ), the highest mountain in the low mountain range. In the south-southwest the view falls on the highest of the Kleiner Odenwald , the Königstuhl ( 567.8  m ), which carries the television tower Heidelberg , the telecommunications tower Heidelberg and the telecommunications tower of the US armed forces Heidelberg . The next higher mountain in the southwest is the Dossenheimer Kopf ( 538.9  m ), 1 km away , in the west-southwest two to three times as far as the White Stone ( 548.1  m ) with the clearly visible Weisser Stein telecommunications tower. The Melibokus ( 517.4  m ) can be seen on the edge of the Odenwald in the north-northwest .

With good visibility outside of the Odenwald in the north the highest elevation Großer Feldberg ( 879.5  m ) of the Taunus can be seen, in the southeast parts of the Swabian Alb and in the south with the Hornisgrinde ( 1164.4  m ) the highest mountain of the northern Black Forest in 104 km distance. Approximately to the west, the valley cut of the Kanzelbach offers a perspective of the Upper Rhine Plain . Beyond the plain, the Palatinate Forest with the Kalmit ( 672.6  m ) as the highest mountain and the Weinbiet ( 554  m ) can be seen in the west- southwest , as well as the North Palatinate uplands in the west-northwest , which culminates in the Donnersberg massif ( 686.5  m ).

Others

Climbing the tower is free. Every year on January 1st, the New Year's blowing takes place at the Teltschikturm, with which the Wilhelmsfeld trombone choir welcomes the new year. An annual tower run has been taking place since 2008. Both individual and team races are held. The winning team of the team race wins a challenge cup.
