Dracaena cinnabari grows as an evergreen, tree-shaped life form with an unbranched or branched, strong trunk that reaches heights of up to 10 meters. The branches are forked. The upright, stiff, sedentary leaves are widened at the base, sword-shaped, 30 to 60 centimeters long and 2 to 3 centimeters wide.

In the strongly branched panicle inflorescence , the flowers stand in groups of two to three. Your flower stalk is 5 millimeters long. The cup-shaped inflorescence is up to 5 millimeters long, the stamens are slightly shorter. The thread-like stylus ends in a heady scar . The flowering time is in February.

It takes five months for the fruit to ripen . The fruits are spherical, fleshy berries that turn from green to black during ripening and orange-red at the end. The berries contain one to three seeds that are eaten and spread by birds .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is it as " Vulnerable (VU) , d". H. classified endangered.

use

Socrotic Dragonborn

The red-brown to brown-red dragon's blood , a natural resin, is extracted from Dracaena cinnabari . The people of Socotra use it to cure stomach ailments, to dye wool, to make glue and to decorate ceramics and their houses with it.

In the Arabian Peninsula, as well as in other countries, the dried and powdered resin is often used as a herbal remedy with analgesic , astringent , antiseptic , hemostatic and anti-ulcer properties against many diseases, and as an abortive agent during the first trimester of pregnancy.
