The road branches off from the DW721 voivodship road in Habdzin . It runs in a south-easterly direction via Łęg and Czernidła to the bank of the Vistula . The DW868 branches off in Gassy and continues south. A ferry has been operating across the Vistula since August 2014 . On the east bank, the DW712 runs one kilometer in an easterly direction until it reaches the DW801 voivodeship road on the outskirts . This leads on the east bank of the Vistula from the capital Warsaw to Puławy in the Lublin Voivodeship .

Until the attack on Poland in 1939, a wooden bridge spanned the Vistula. The next bridge over the Vistula is about 15 kilometers south in Góra Kalwaria .
